Very superstitious

Being raised Greek, it is not so strange to have evil eyes, religious icons and even garlic hanging in every corner of my house.

  • The Websters dictionary definition of The evil eye : an eye or glance held capable of inflicting harm
The Evil Eye is a kind of negative power we all more or less carry within ourselves. If we stare too long on a person, animal or even an object we may inflict damage through this power. It is often totally unconsciously, but the staring in itself often comes from admiration or envy, which are perfect channels for the Evil Eye.

I grew up with this superstition ingrained in me and it was never shocking to see people making the sign of the cross and spitting to ward off the evil.  Although it is most definitely a Pagan symbol, the eye or a blue bead is often worn with a cross. The crosses here for example were given to my children by their godparents at their baptisms. This candle or "lambatha" is used for the "Anastasi" mass (Resurrection mass) for Orthodox Easter and there is an evil eye affixed

Recently I have started making my own evil eye collection of jewelry and decorative wall hanging ornaments to add to my CraftyLeftDee Etsy shop. I would love to hear your feedback on the items below in the comments!
